Green Care is a beauty recipes app for creating beauty care products at home.
PURPOSE AND CONTEXT
The development of this app was part of my CareerFoundry UI design course.
The brief asked to make a recipe app. I wanted to stay away from the next, probably a little boring, app for people who want to cook, so I decided to explore a different path. While brainstorming with a colleague about things you need ingredients and directions for, I came up with the idea of making a recipe app for beauty care products, like lotions, shampoos, etc.
The purpose of this app is to help people who enjoy using natural bodycare products to prepare them at home, in the most hassle-free way possible.
My initial thesis was that Millennials are more and more concerned about their impact on the environment and are interested in choosing a healthier lifestyle. Opting for natural and cruelty free beauty care products is part of this conscious lifestyle.
I needed to prove that this audience would be interested in an app showing how to prepare at home beauty care recipes such as washes, masks, lotions.
I conducted user research sending online surveys to potential users in my target group and through personal interviews. I was looking for an insight in their behaviors, attitudes, needs, goals and frustrations.
USER BEHAVIOUR ANALYSIS
The results of this initial phase helped me shape my user personas and define the user stories and flows.
Once I gathered all the requirements, I started working on the wireframes: first in the form of pencil sketches, then moving to the digital ones.
The UI part of this project was fun! I looked for inspiration online, but also offline, in magazines and shops, to understand the aesthetical qualities expected from a product dealing with beauty care and natural ingredients.
Instead of using photos, I opted for an illustrated design, believing that it would make the app look easy and friendly. One of my challenges has been designing all the elements, trying to avoid making everything too girly, as my app was meant to be gender neutral.
Here are the main screens of the app.
